Sean Dyche fears Nick Pope shoulder injury is serious

Sean Dyche provides a pessimistic update on the shoulder injury sustained by Nick Pope in Burnley's 1-1 draw against Aberdeen on Thursday evening.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has confessed that he fears the shoulder injury sustained by goalkeeper Nick Pope could be serious.

The England international, who was part of the Three Lions' squad for the World Cup, lasted just 14 minutes of the Clarets' Europa League qualifier against Aberdeen on Thursday evening.

Pope was clattered into by opposition forward Sam Cosgrove and had to be replaced by third-choice stopper Anders Lindegaard, with Tom Heaton also sidelined through a slight knock to his calf.

Asked about Pope's injury after the 1-1 draw at Pittodrie, Dyche confirmed that the 26-year-old had been taken to a local hospital and may now be facing a spell in the stands.

"Nick has a shoulder injury," he told reporters. "We'll have to wait and see but it looks to be more serious, rather than not serious."

Gary Mackay-Steven scored soon after Pope's departure, but Sam Vokes netted late on to leave the two-legged tie delicately poised.
