Ivan Reitman: Twins sequel Triplets has "very good script"

Twins director Ivan Reitman discusses the upcoming sequel Triplets.

Twins director Ivan Reitman has insisted that the upcoming sequel Triplets will not do "any harm" to the legacy of the original movie.

The fondly-regarded comedy was released in 1988 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito as two diametrically-opposite men who discovered that they were twins separated at birth.

For years rumours abounded about a sequel, supposedly starring Eddie Murphy as a newly-discovered third brother - and earlier this year Reitman confirmed that the project is finally going ahead, albeit with Tracy Morgan in the role originally envisaged for Murphy.

"It's happening," Reitman told this month's Empire. "I think Eddie would have been great too, but Eddie got very busy in the last few months. There are some great comedic actors, but very few who I thought would work in terms of the energy of Arnold and Danny. I think the three of them will be amazing together.

"I'm hoping to do that next, so we're just organising it right now - we have a very good script."

He continued: "We have a very cool idea to explain the fact that there's another brother, and an African-American brother, within the genetics of the whole story. I think it's one of the better sequences in the movie. And it's not doing any harm to the original movie."

Triplets is due to be filmed in Boston in early 2022.
