Meet the people who bring Sports Mole to your screens.
Sports Mole

There are many moles in the SM family, you know. Read on to find out more about who lives in our hole!

Neil Wilkes
Editor-in-chief

Neil is the co-founder of entertainment website Digital Spy, serving as Editor from 1999 to 2011 before leaving to set up Sports Mole. A season-ticketed Wolves fan, Neil also loves tennis and has a soft spot for player-turned-anchor Annabel Croft. In his spare time he indulges his obsession for trashy TV shows. Neil can be found on Twitter @neothecat.

Alan Jay
Business Director

Alan Jay has worked with Editor Neil Wilkes since 2001 and before that was one of the founders of IMDb.com. In addition to being involved in various internet projects he produces films. He has lived his entire life in Chelsea and follows Formula 1, golf and tennis. He can be followed on Twitter @alanjay.

Barney Corkhill
Editor

A journalism graduate from the University of Sheffield, Barney firmly believes that there is no such thing as a bad sport. As a lifelong Liverpool fan, he still regularly replays the 2005 Champions League final and lists a host of players from the Anfield club amongst his favourite sportsmen. On the field himself, Barney has forged a reputation as a goalscoring defender with a fearsome left foot that bears an uncanny resemblance to John Arne Riise (nothing to do with the ginger hair). Follow Barney on Twitter @BarneyCorkhill.

Dan Saney
Deputy Editor

Formerly second-in-command at Digital Spy, Dan brings with him a wealth of experience in the areas of breaking news and newswire editorial. When not indulging in his primary passion - cricket - Dan can usually be found rescuing cats.

Paul Jones
Systems Architect

Technical whizz Paul is responsible for every aspect of bringing SM to your screens, from managing the system infrastructure, to developing our CMS and coding pretty much every single part of the site. Paul takes part in diving and trampolining three times a week.

Matt Law
Football Editor

Matt studied law at Anglia Ruskin University and has since worked with a number of sports websites as a freelance sports writer. He's a keen footballer and a former National Finals table tennis champion. An avid Manchester United fan, Matt names his favourite sportsmen as Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and Gary Neville. Follow him on Twitter @MLAW290.

Daniel Lewis
Senior Reporter

Daniel is a South Wales-based journalist with experience writing for a variety of sports websites. He graduated from the University of Glamorgan in 2013 and is a Cardiff City fan who lists his ultimate target in life to watch his beloved Wales qualify for the World Cup. Follow him on Twitter @Daniel_Lewis92.

Darren Plant
Senior Reporter

Darren graduated from Staffordshire University with a Sports Journalism degree in 2009 and has previously worked for news website InTheNews as well as local newspapers The Cannock Mercury and The Chase Post. Darren is a Chelsea fan but also follows Conference North side Hednesford Town. He has a big interest in darts, and plays for two different pub sides. He names his favourite sportsmen as Fernando Torres, Andy Murray and Wayne Mardle. Follow Darren on Twitter @Dazman5.

Ben Knapton
Senior Reporter

Ben graduated from the University of Brighton with a Sports Journalism degree in 2019, and has experience working with newspapers, broadcasters and reporting live from the press box. Ben is an avid Arsenal fan and was at the Emirates to see THAT Jack Wilshere goal against Norwich City. A former British champion in gymnastics, he has since taken his acrobatic traits to the football pitch, playing as a goalkeeper in his spare time. Follow Ben on Twitter @BenKnapton.

Oliver Thomas
Reporter

Oliver graduated from UCFB Wembley with a First Class Honours degree in Multimedia Sports Journalism in 2019, and has experience working for the media teams at Wycombe Wanderers and Hampton and Richmond Borough as well as working for the National League Under-19's Alliance and The National Student. Oliver is an avid Manchester City supporter and is currently aiming to visit all 92 football league grounds. Follow Oliver on Twitter @O1iThomas.

Brett Curtis
Reporter

Brett is an avid football fanatic first and foremost but enjoys his history, too, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts at the University of East Anglia. Amalgamating his two main hobbies in life - football and writing - has seen him work for several online publications such as Goal and Bleacher Report in the past. As a lifelong Liverpool fan, Brett has gone through all the highs and lows, with his hero Steven Gerrard a central presence throughout all of them until Jurgen Klopp finally restored the Reds to their perch after years of Sir Alex Ferguson-inflicted misery throughout his childhood. Follow Brett on Twitter @brett_curtis92.

Olly Allen
Reporter

Olly is an MA News Journalism student at Cardiff University and has written for a variety of sports and news websites in the past. He supports Reading and is also part of the media team at Welsh side Barry Town United. When he's not watching, writing or talking about football, Olly is a keen viewer of British comedies. Follow him on Twitter @OllyAllen_

Jonathan O'Shea
Reporter

Jonathan is a Sports Journalism graduate from the University of Huddersfield who also works in education. Having written for several football websites in the past – particularly about the much-maligned Europa League – the unfailing drama and intrigue of Italy's Serie A is where his interests now lie. A part-time Aston Villa and Republic of Ireland supporter; full-time football chatterer, Jonathan also holds a candle for guitar music, surreal comedies and a variety of other sports. Follow Jonathan on Twitter @strangeloaf

Sam Varley
Reporter

Sam is a Sheffield United season ticket holder, while also running the social media content of non-league club Yorkshire Amateur AFC in Leeds. When he's not writing, watching or playing football, Sam enjoys watching cricket, golf and boxing, and is currently studying Business and Marketing at the University of Manchester.

Marvelous Adepoju
Reporter

Marvelous is an engineering student at the University of Ibadan with a passion for the beautiful game called football. Other areas of interest are music, basketball and tennis. He supports Chelsea and the Portland Trailblazers and has plans to visit their home grounds some day.

Joshua Ojele
Reporter

Currently an undergraduate student of Petroleum Engineering in Nigeria's premier university, Joshua is an ardent Chelsea fan who enjoys writing and debating about football. A fox in the box himself, he terrorises opposing defenders whenever on the field of play and strongly believes that when compared to Manchester United's treble-winning team, Chelsea's 2003-2004 side, Manchester City's centurion or Liverpool's 2019-20 title-winning side, Arsenal's invincibles are a tad bit overrated. Follow Joshua on Twitter @JoshuaOjele

Sammy Wynne
Reporter

Sammy is currently a Football Business and Media student at UCFB Wembley, and she plays for Oxford United Women Under-23s. Sammy has previously represented Wales at Under-15 and Under-16 level. She is a passionate Swansea City fan, who is always optimistic when watching her beloved Swans. Follow her on Twitter @SammyWynne8

Joel Lefevre
Reporter

Joel is known to most people as a former houseguest on Big Brother Canada where he finished fifth in season four. He is a broadcast journalism graduate from WABC in Canada with over 7 years of experience as a news and sports writer & anchor. As a dual French and Canadian citizen, he is a massive football fan and former goalkeeper who is used to second place, having captured two silver medals at the Canadian provincials. Being a lifelong supporter of AS Monaco and the French national team, he knows a lot about nearly winning. Because his teams rarely finish first he consistently rewatches the 1998 and 2018 World Cup to bring a little joy to all the heartbreak he has experienced as a football supporter. Follow Joel on Twitter @JoelBBCAN.

Matthew Tranter
Reporter

Matt is a West Midlands-based freelance football writer and a massive West Brom fan. When Matt is not writing about football, he is probably talking about it, watching it on TV or attending a match. It's safe to say he is football mad. After originally starting out as a financial accountant, he felt it was time to start doing something he could be truly passionate about and has recently started writing and providing team news for a number of football websites. He has also recently qualified as a Level 2 PFSA Football Scout and Analyst. Follow Matt on Twitter @MattTranter95

James Mackenzie
Reporter

After spending years in an average office job, James decided to turn a passion for sport into a career in 2020 and now works as a freelance journalist, as well as running mostlyf1.com. He moved to Paris just before the Brexit deadline but remains a Liverpool fan, courtesy of that Michael Owen goal against Argentina at World Cup 98. (Don't mention the transfer to United...) Outside of the sporting world, James can also be found drumming for the very mildly successful post-hardcore band You Win Again Gravity. body check tags ::
