Real Madrid's Marco Asensio unmoved by expectations

Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio claims that he 'does not pay much attention' to the expectations that have been placed upon him.

Marco Asensio has said that he 'does not pay much attention' to the expectations that have been placed upon him.

The 22-year-old joined Real Madrid from Mallorca in 2014 and has scored 21 times in 93 appearances for the Spanish giants, winning one La Liga title and two Champions League crowns in the process.

Asensio is expected to be a key player under new Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui, but the Spain international is continuing to ignore the hype surrounding him.

"I try not to pay much attention to the expectations that are on me," Asensio told GQ. "It is normal that so many expectations have been generated, because I have had two very good years at Real Madrid, I just hope to continue surpassing them.

"My first choice is always to win at Real Madrid, after that you never know what can happen, Real Madrid is the most demanding club in the world and from the beginning you know you have to be prepared and give everything for the shirt.

"I have already had the opportunity to be a starter in very important matches both in Madrid and in the national team, I hope that each time I can repay that and more regularity in both teams."

Asensio helped Los Blancos open their La Liga campaign with a 2-0 win over Getafe last weekend.
