Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Millwall and Luton Town, including predictions and team news.

Millwall will be hoping to leapfrog Luton Town into the Championship playoff places when the two sides meet at The Den on Tuesday night.

The two sides are currently separated by just a point, with the Hatters in sixth and the Lions in seventh going into the game.

Match preview

Millwall got their second win of the season on Saturday as they came from behind to beat Wycombe Wanderers 2-1.

It was a deserved result for Gary Rowett's team, who dominated proceedings with 60% possession and 18 shots.

That does not always equate to a win though, as Luton found out to their cost as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Stoke despite also having 18 shots along with 57% of the ball.

It left Nathan Jones frustrated against his former side, with the Welshman admitting that Luton needed "to be better in both boxes".

The Hatters' recent away record is strong, as they have won five out of seven games on the road since Jones returned to the club in May, keeping clean sheets in all of those victories.

But Millwall are tough nut to crack, particularly at home, with the Lions losing just two of their last ten games at The Den.

Yet they have won back-to-back games just once in 2020, while Luton have not lost two games in a row in Jones's current tenure.

The Bedfordshire side have failed to beat Millwall in their last seven attempts and have not won in South East London since 1999.

Team News

Gary Rowett went with a back four for the first time in the Championship this season against Wycombe and may be tempted to stick with it after gaining victory.

Mason Bennett missed the game at Adams Park with a hip problem but should return on Tuesday.

Deadline-day signing Kenneth Zohore is likely to be involved for the first time but may not start having played no football since the end of June.

Luton striker James Collins sat out the defeat to Stoke after feeling unwell and is awaiting the results of a coronavirus test to see if he can feature on Tuesday.

Danny Hylton struggled upfront in Collins's absence, so could be replaced by Kazenga LuaLua with Elliott Lee moving into the middle.

New signing Joe Morrell made his debut off the bench against Stoke so will be pushing for his first start.

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Bialkowski; Romeo, Hutchinson, Cooper, Malone; Leonard, Wood; J. Wallace, Bradshaw, Mahoney; Bennett

Luton Town possible starting lineup:
Sluga; Cranie, Pearson, Bradley, Norrington-Davies; Rea, Mpanzu, Berry; Cornick, Lee, LuaLua

We say: Millwall 1-0 Luton Town

Both teams have forged reputations of being hard to beat of late, so it will be a close game at The Den. Millwall seem slightly better placed to snatch victory given the quality in their squad and strong home record.
