Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that his club are in discussions over a potential contract extension for Vincent Kompany.

The City captain will see his current deal expire at the end of the season and is free to enter talks with foreign clubs over a move away from the Etihad Stadium.

However, Guardiola has confirmed that City are exploring the possibility of an extension for the 32-year-old, who is due to have a testimonial at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

"We are considering it, we are talking about that. I would like it. he's our captain, 11 years here. He's one of the best central defenders I've ever seen," Guardiola told reporters.

Kompany joined City from Hamburger SV in 2008 and has made 348 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 19 times in the process.

This season, the centre-back has made 14 appearances in all competitions, including nine in the Premier League.
