Jordi Alba opens up on contract situation at Barcelona

Jordi Alba insists that he wants to stay with Barcelona and it is up to the club to renew his contract.

Jordi Alba has insisted that he wants to stay with Barcelona and it is up to the club to renew his contract.

Alba has scored twice and provided nine assists in 25 appearances for Barcelona this term and has made over 270 appearances for the Catalan giants since a 2012 move from Valencia.

The 29-year-old will see his contract with the club expire at the end of next season, however, and he admitted in the latter stages of last year that he was disappointed Barcelona had not opened talks.

Alba has revealed that he is desperate to pen a fresh deal with the Spanish champions, but has said that the situation is currently out of his hands.

"Everything is still the same for me, I have a year left on my contract and I don't know what the club thinks. I'm calm," Marca quotes Alba as saying.

"They have to see if they want to renew me and when they do want to renew me if that is the case. I want to stay here as this is the club that I love and have always supported, but it depends on them. For me, I can only control my own performance which I think has been good, but I don't expect anything from anyone."

Juventus are reportedly closely monitoring developments with the view to moving for the Spain international.
