Sports Mole previews Monday's La Liga clash between Mallorca and Osasuna, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

On a run of five straight defeats in all competitions, Mallorca will be bidding to get their season back on track when they welcome Osasuna to Estadi Mallorca Son Moix on Monday night.

Mallorca are currently ninth in the La Liga table, boasting 30 points from their opening 22 matches of the campaign, while Osasuna are eighth, five points behind sixth-placed Rayo Vallecano in the battle for Europe.

Match preview

Not too long ago, Mallorca were in sixth and looking strong in terms of the race to secure European football for next season, but it has not been a successful start to the year for Jagoba Arrasate's side.

The Pirates were beaten by Pontevedra in the Copa del Rey at the start of January before suffering a 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup.

Mallorca have also lost their last three league games against Villarreal, Real Betis and Atletico Madrid, failing to find the back of the net in the process, with the disappointing run seeing them drop into ninth position in the table.

Arrasate's team are now five points behind sixth-placed Rayo Vallecano, but they are also just two points ahead of 12th-placed Sevilla, so their situation could worsen if their poor form is not addressed.

Mallorca have found it difficult to make their mark at home this season, only picking up 15 points from 11 matches, but Osasuna have struggled on their travels, only claiming eight points from their 10 games away from their own stadium.

Osasuna, meanwhile, will enter the match off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Real Sociedad in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, but they are unbeaten in their last three league games, picking up five points in the process.

Indeed, Vicente Moreno's side shared the points with Rayo Vallecano and Las Palmas before recording a 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad, and they are currently in eighth position in the table on 30 points.

Osasuna are just five points behind sixth-placed Rayo Vallecano and are therefore in the mix for a European spot, but their away form will surely have to improve for that to become a possibility this term.

Los Rojillos recorded a 1-0 win over Mallorca in the reverse match earlier this season, but Mallorca won 3-2 when the two teams locked horns at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix during the 2023-24 campaign.

Nine of the last 14 La Liga matches between the two sides have finished level, though, and the league table is a demonstration of the fact that there is not much between the pair when it comes to quality.

Team News

Mallorca will welcome Omar Mascarell back into their squad for this match, with the midfielder back from the suspension that ruled him out of the team's 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid last time out.

Antonio Sanchez will again be missing due to a hamstring problem, while Toni Lato, Pablo Maffeo and Manu Morlanes are doubts.

Cyle Larin and Vedat Muriqi featured as the front two against Atletico, and that is again expected to be the case in this match, with Dani Rodriguez likely to be the player to drop out in order for Mascarell to come into the side.

As for Osasuna, Bryan Zaragoza is now back from a foot injury, with the on-loan Bayern Munich attacker featuring off the bench in the team's last two matches, but he is perhaps still slightly short when it comes to a potential start.

Lucas Torro is expected to be introduced back into the side following the Copa del Rey clash with Real Sociedad, but there will once again be a spot through the middle for Ante Budimir, who has 12 La Liga goals to his name this term.

Zaragoza's return means that Osasuna currently have a fully-fit squad, giving head coach Moreno somewhat of a selection dilemma due to the number of players that he has available for selection.

Mallorca possible starting lineup:
Greif; Morey, Valjent, Raillo, Copete, Mojica; Mascarell, Costa, Darder; Larin, Muriqi

Osasuna possible starting lineup:
Herrera; Areso, Boyomo, Catena, Cruz; Moncayola, Torro, Oroz; Ruben Garcia, Budimir, Kike Barja

We say: Mallorca 1-1 Osasuna

Nine of the last 14 La Liga matches between these two sides have finished level, and we can see another stalemate occurring here. Mallorca have home advantage, but their overall form has been disappointing in 2025, and we are backing Osasuna to secure a point.
