Sports Mole previews Sunday's La Liga clash between Leganes and Getafe, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Getafe will be bidding to return to winning ways in Spain's top flight when they head to Leganes on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors are currently 14th in the La Liga table, boasting 30 points from their opening 25 matches of the campaign, while Leganes are 16th, just one point outside of the relegation zone at a crucial stage.

Match preview

Leganes have a record of five wins, nine draws and 11 defeats from their 25 league matches this season, with a total of 24 points leaving them in 16th spot, just one point outside of the relegation zone.

Borja Jimenez's side are the reigning Segunda Division champions, and survival would have been their number one aim at the start of the campaign, so by that standard, it has been a successful season to date.

Leganes just need to be careful that their recent winless run does not stretch too many more matches, though, as they are without a victory in their last six, including five La Liga fixtures.

Indeed, El Lega have just two points to show from their last five league matches, and they will enter this game off the back of a 3-0 defeat to Real Sociedad last weekend, which proved to be their fifth away league loss of the campaign.

Leganes have picked up 14 points from their 12 league matches on home soil this season, which is not a disastrous record, but Getafe have 14 points from their 12 La Liga games on their travels, while they have conceded only 12 times away from home.

Getafe brought a six-game unbeaten run in the league into their clash with Real Betis last weekend, with the capital giants rising up the table thanks to four wins from their last six fixtures in Spain's top flight.

However, Jose Bordalas's side were undone on home soil, with Isco netting a brace, and Borja Mayoral's 82nd-minute effort only proved to be a consolation for the Deep Blue Ones.

Getafe are currently in 14th spot in the table, seven points outside of the relegation zone, while they are only five points off sixth-placed Rayo Vallecano, so a European finish is still possible this season.

The capital team's success has been built on a strong defensive record, having only conceded 20 times in their 25 matches, which is the second-best record in the division behind Atletico Madrid (16), but finding the back of the net has been a problem, managing just 21, which is the second-worst attacking record behind basement side Real Valladolid (16).

Getafe were held to a 1-1 draw by Leganes in the reverse meeting between the two sides earlier this season, but they recorded a 3-0 victory on their last visit to Estadio Municipal de Butarque in La Liga back in January 2020.

Team News

Leganes will once again be without the services of Enric Franquesa due to a long-term knee problem, while Munir El Haddadi and Renato Tapia will miss the contest due to suspensions.

Head coach Jimenez will make changes to the side that took to the field for the first whistle against Real Sociedad last time out, with Oscar Rodriguez and Miguel de la Fuente likely to be introduced.

Leganes played a back five against Real Sociedad, and that may again be the case on Sunday, which would see Dani Raba operate in a more central position for El Lega.

As for Getafe, Luis Milla is a doubt due to a muscular problem, while Domingos Duarte will be suspended due to the red card that he was handed in the defeat to Real Betis last time out.

There will be a return to the squad for Christantus Uche, who was suspended against Real Betis, with the 21-year-old expected to feature alongside Mayoral in the final third of the field.

Allan Nyom could come in for Duarte, which would lead to Djene Dakonam switching to the middle of the defence, but Ramon Terrats and Juan Bernat may keep their spots in the midfield.

Leganes possible starting lineup:
Dmitrovic; Alti, Rosier, Gonzalez, Nastasic, Cruz; Neyou, Cisse, O Rodriguez; Raba, De la Fuente

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Nyom, Dakonam, Alderete, Rico; Iglesias, Terrats, Arambarri, Bernat; Uche, Mayoral

We say: Leganes 0-0 Getafe

Getafe have a record of four wins, two draws and six defeats from their 12 away league games this season, while Leganes have the same record on home soil - it would not be a shock to see this match go either way, but taking into account Getafe's excellent defensive record and their struggles finding the back of the net, we believe that this match will end 0-0.
