Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is reportedly in line to be offered a contract by three high-profile European clubs.
The Netherlands international is currently focused on delivering silverware at Anfield, Arne Slot's in the hunt for a Premier League, EFL Cup and Champions League treble.
As well as sitting 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, the Merseyside giants have a pivotal last-16 showdown with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday night followed by the EFL Cup final with Newcastle United on Sunday.
However, attention remains on whether Van Dijk will eventually pen fresh terms with Liverpool, the 33-year-old's contract due to expire at the end of the season.
As it stands, it appears more likely than not that the centre-back will extend his stay at the club, yet he will not be short of options should he decide to take on a fresh challenge.
Which clubs are chasing Van Dijk?
According to Rousing The Kop, there are three teams who are continuing to monitor the situation, one of them being Real Madrid.
The report alleges that Los Blancos would be prepared to offer Van Dijk a two-year contract as they bid to strengthen competition in the middle of their backline.
La Liga neighbours and rivals Atletico Madrid are also said to be ready to involve themselves in what would be viewed as a shock move for the player.
Furthermore, Bayern Munich reportedly hold an interest in tempting Van Dijk to the Allianz Arena, their head coach Vincent Kompany said to be an admirer of the veteran.
As it stands, it is unclear when Van Dijk intends to resolve his future one way or another, there being little chance of a conclusion to matters in the next seven days given the magnitude of the next two matches.
Which club would be perceived as frontrunners?
Much would depend on the level of ambition shown by the aforementioned trio, as well as if they are prepared to tinker with their transfer approach.
While Real Madrid are known to be in the market for at least one new central defender, they were believed to be targeting a younger player due to the need to lower the age of their backline.
Bayern Munich may also fall into that bracket when they do not necessarily require another centre-back, but Van Dijk's influence would be felt at Atletico who know that his acquisition would make a statement.
That said, there would be a perception that Diego Simeone's side may need to win La Liga or the Champions League during 2024-25 for Van Dijk to be tempted into a transfer. body check tags ::
