ITV 'spends millions on I'm A Celebrity's castle set'
ITV has reportedly spent a significant sum getting Gwrych Castle ready for the new series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in November.

ITV has reportedly spent millions getting the new home of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! ready for the new series in November.

For the first time the show is unable to film in the Australian jungle as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and has instead been relocated to Gwrych Castle in North Wales.

According to The Sun, extensive work is being undertaken on the 200-year-old castle in order to make it both safe for the contestants and crew, as well as camera-ready, for when the show starts in just under two months' time.

Among the improvements are the installation of hundreds of metres of electricity cables and water pipes, repairs to two of the crumbling towers and the erection of a plastic roof above the contestants' camp in order to protect them from what are expected to be rough wintry conditions.

"This isn't a holiday camp for the stars, but without a roof, everyone would have been utterly miserable for three weeks, which would not make great telly," a source told the newspaper.

"It will still be hard work but slightly warmer than if it snows where they are sleeping. ITV want viewers to largely recognise the show."

A "giant" studio is also said to have been built for Ant and Dec to host from, while enhanced security measures have been implemented around the perimeter of the castle grounds.
