The actor behind the character responsible for Adam Barlow's attack on Coronation Street discusses the storyline.

Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) was tonight revealed as the person responsible for the savage attack on Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) in Coronation Street.

The plot, which left the lawyer injured on the floor of the Bistro, saw many of his nearest and dearest fingered for the crime - including uncle Peter (Chris Gascoyne), estranged wife Sarah (Tina O'Brien), cousin Simon (Alex Bain) and long-term rival Gary (Mikey North).

In tonight's New Year's Eve episode, however, it emerged that Faye had attacked a drunken Adam in the Bistro, mistakenly believing him to be her creepy boss Ray (Mark Frost), who had previously attempted to rape her.

Speaking after the big reveal, Leach told The Mirror: "I don't feel like I've really had a big storyline since the pregnancy so to have a storyline like this with twists and turns and to be involved so much, I was so excited to get my teeth into it, it's amazing.

"I think [Faye] just feels ashamed of herself, that she could believe that this man really thought she was all this and gave her this job and believed in her.

"She doesn't think people will believe her because she's already slept with him in the first place, and that even though she didn't want to, she didn't say no.

"She feels like he's got that against her now and he's got the power to make everyone turn against her and not believe what she's saying."

Coronation Street continues with an hour-long episode on New Year's Day at 8pm.
