Result: Gloucester on song to see off Leicester

Tigers tamed at Kingsholm.

Gloucester moved up to third in the Premiership table with a convincing 36-13 win over Leicester at Kingsholm.

The Tigers had no answers to the hosts' pace and power as Gloucester scored five tries.

Ollie Thorley scored two superb ones with Matt Banahan, Jason Woodward and Fraser Balmain also crossing. Danny Cipriani added three conversions and a penalty with Billy Twelvetrees converting one.

Mike Williams scored Leicester's try with Joe Ford kicking the conversion and two penalties.

Gloucester took an early lead with a third-minute penalty from Cipriani after Tom Youngs had infringed by handling the ball at a ruck.

Ford soon responded with a simple penalty but then missed the chance to put his side in front as his second effort from 45 metres was well off-target.

The first 15 minutes were easily forgettable but the game sprung to life when Mark Atkinson split the defence with a clean break to send Woodward racing over.

Cipriani converted before Ford knocked over his second penalty to leave Tigers trailing 10-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Gloucester continued to be the more creative side and extended their lead with a try from Banahan.

A strong tackle from the wing won the hosts a penalty, which Cipriani kicked to the corner before a succession of forward drives created the overlap for Banahan to coast over.

Leicester suffered two further setbacks in quick succession.

First, flanker Guy Thompson was carried off to be replaced by Mike Fitzgerald before Balmain forced his way over from close range to give his side a deserved 22-6 half-time lead.

Gloucester lost the impressive Atkinson just before the break with an injury but it did not stop their momentum as Thorley scored a brilliant solo try following a 55 metre run.

Moments later, the home side appeared to have collected a fifth try when superb inter-passing from Cipriani, Banahan and Will Heinz sent Woodward over but subsequent replays revealed a couple of forward passes and the score was ruled out.

Leicester picked up their try when Williams finished off a driving line-out before England squad member, Ben Morgan, returned following a neck injury to play the final quarter.

Cipriani was just short with a long-distance penalty as Gloucester tried to close out the game before the hosts produced a magnificent finish as Morgan broke out of defence to give Thorley the chance to set off on a breathtaking 85-metre weaving run to the line.
