Callum McManaman rejoins Wigan Athletic from Sunderland

Wigan Athletic announce that winger Callum McManaman has left Sunderland to rejoin the Latics for an undisclosed fee.

Winger Callum McManaman has left Sunderland to rejoin Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.

McManaman began his career with the Latics and went on to make 109 appearances for the club between 2008 and 2015, which included a man-of-the-match performance in the 2013 FA Cup final against Manchester City.

However, the 27-year-old has since failed to make an impact at both West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland, resulting in the attacker being made available for transfer this summer.

Wigan have now brought in their former player on a one-year deal, and manager Paul Cook is delighted to add McManaman to his squad ahead of the club's return to the Championship.

Cook told the club's official website: "Callum's connection with this club and our fans is there for all to see, our task is to get him ready and doing what he does best at the DW Stadium.

"I have seen Callum from afar and I am excited about what he can produce; this is a good environment for him to come into because he knows a lot of the players and staff well, which should help him settle in straight away."

Wigan begin the new campaign with a home fixture against Sheffield Wednesday on August 4.
