Daniel Farke wants Norwich to enjoy moving top of the table

The Canaries are a point clear in the Championship.

Manager Daniel Farke wants Norwich to embrace their lofty position in the Sky Bet Championship after a ruthless 4-0 victory at Sheffield Wednesday.

Farke’s pioneering young side blew away the hosts with four second-half goals – three of which were scored within the space of 12 minutes.

And Farke, whose team have now won four league games on the spin, said: “We are pretty happy with this result, and also with the performance.

“They (Sheffield Wednesday) tried to play with lots of intensity, but our performance was too good, and in the second half we could speed up our game-play.

“It’s important to enjoy this feeling, but it’s also important that the players and me have both feet on the ground.

“We know where we are coming from. We don’t lose the ground from under our feet.”

Even in spite of Mario Vrancic having missed an early penalty for Norwich, Sheffield Wednesday still had their moments in an even first half.

But once Teemu Pukki scored after 51 minutes, the home side’s fragility was dramatically exposed.

Emi Buendia doubled Norwich’s lead five minutes later, while Pukki put the game beyond Wednesday when he swept home Max Aarons’ excellent right-wing cross.

The visitors later added another goal when substitute Dennis Srbeny embarrassed goalkeeper Cameron Dawson for making an unseemly hash of a routine back-pass.

Farke said: “It was important we kept our nerve (after the early penalty miss).

“We had everything under control in the second half – that is a big compliment to the lads.

“We’ve had three difficult years, but we have such a young group of players and it’s one high-class performance after another.

“We are flying, but the Championship is so close.”

Whereas Norwich are on the march, Sheffield Wednesday are in free-fall.

The Owls have now lost four league games on the bounce, with manager Jos Luhukay deeply concerned about his side’s defensive frailties.

He said: “Everyone can see we are not consistent enough in our defending work.

“It was too easy, how we gave the goals away. You cannot win games when you give goals so easily away.

“We do not have the stability that we need. In the beginning of the game we had two or three good moments to score. It was a very, very disappointing game for us.

“I think we have the character – they did not give up – but when you don’t have 100 per cent confidence or trust, it’s not easy. We must fight to do better.”

Sheffield Wednesday’s next game is away at rivals Sheffield United on Friday.

Luhukay said: “We can only help ourselves and that is what we must try to do in the next few days.

“We do not have too much time to get back in a positive way. We are very frustrated and we are also angry.”
