Rangers lose Candeias second booking appeal

The Portuguese winger was sent off by Willie Collum against St Mirren.

Rangers have lost their appeal against the second yellow card Daniel Candeias received against St Mirren.

The Portuguese winger was sent off by Willie Collum after Rangers netted a second goal in stoppage-time. Footage showed Anton Ferdinand had been the aggressor in a clash with the Rangers player seconds earlier.

St Mirren goalkeeper Craig Samson later accused Candeias of being "disrespectful" in his celebrations by taunting Ferdinand moments earlier.

Yellow-card appeals are only permitted for simulation and in cases of mistaken identity under Scottish Football Association rules and Rangers appealed on the basis of the latter.

But the SFA has announced that the claim was dismissed, meaning Candeias is suspended for Sunday's visit of Motherwell.

The 30-year-old had received his first yellow card for his celebrations after opening the scoring after he left the field and ran towards the Rangers fans.
