Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain provides injury update

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has said that he would "love to make an appearance" before the end of this season as he battles back from a serious knee injury.

Oxlade-Chamberlain seriously damaged his knee during Liverpool's Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma in late April, and underwent surgery to repair the issue at the start of May.

The 25-year-old has revealed that he has "already started passing the ball around inside", and is now ready to enter the next phase of his recovery ahead of a potential return before the end of the season.

"The next target for me is to build up more in the gym and get back towards being able to run outside again. I've already started passing the ball around inside which feels really good," Oxlade-Chamberlain told Liverpool's official website.

"When you get outside, you feel a lot closer. It will probably get harder again when that happens. I'd love to be able to make an appearance at least before the end of the season - probably more mentally to prove that I can do it. Then have a good pre-season and start fresh next season."

The midfielder missed the 2018 Champions League final, in addition to the chance to represent England at the 2018 World Cup.
