Swansea City 'beat Aston Villa, Leeds United to Sean Clare signing'

A report suggests that Sean Clare, who turned down a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday, is on his way to Championship rivals Swansea City.

Swansea City have reportedly edged out two of their Championship rivals to the signing of former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sean Clare.

The 21-year-old has been without a club over the summer after turning down the offer of a new contract at Hillsborough.

Clare, who made five appearances for the Owls last term following a short spell on loan at Gillingham, is rumoured to have held talks with Swans boss Graham Potter last week.

According to Sky Sports News, the Hackney-born youngster is on course to finalise a switch to Swansea before the end of the week, despite interest from fellow second-tier sides Leeds United and Aston Villa.

Sheffield Wednesday will be paid a compensation payment for Clare as he is aged under 23.
