Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Aston Villa

:Headline: Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Aston Villa:
Sports Mole rounds up all of Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their FA Cup fourth-round clash with Aston Villa on Friday.
Sports Mole

After punching their ticket to the EFL Cup final, Chelsea seek further knockout success when Aston Villa head to Stamford Bridge for Friday's FA Cup fourth-round showdown.

Mauricio Pochettino's men overturned a 1-0 deficit against Middlesbrough in emphatic fashion on Tuesday evening, battering Michael Carrick's side 6-1 to reach the EFL Cup showpiece.

The Blues also progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup by virtue of a dominant win over a Championship club, sending Preston North End packing with a 4-0 triumph earlier this month.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their clash with Villa, who coincidentally edged past Boro 1-0 in the third round of the FA Cup.

Christopher Nkunku

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hip
Possible return date: January 31 (vs. Liverpool)

The unfortunate Christopher Nkunku picked up a hip problem shortly after recovering from his serious knee issue, and while his latest concern is not as severe, he will not be available for the fourth round.

Wesley Fofana

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Wesley Fofana - another Frenchman plagued by fitness concerns in recent times - remains on the long road to recovery from a summer knee operation and is unlikely to feature before next season.

Trevoh Chalobah

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: Unknown

Earlier this month, Trevoh Chalobah claimed that he was "healed" after spending months in the infirmary with a thigh problem, but he is still not being considered for selection, potentially due to tactical reasons amid talk of a possible January exit.

Lesley Ugochukwu

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: Unknown

Lesley Ugochukwu's Christmas Eve was ruined by a hamstring problem sustained in the loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers, and there is still no telling when the young midfielder might be back at Pochettino's disposal.

Reece James

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: March 30 (vs. Burnley)

One of the most frequent occupants of the Chelsea treatment room, Reece James has a long road ahead of him in his recovery from a thigh issue and will not return until the end of March in the best-case scenario.

Robert Sanchez

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Robert Sanchez is making steady progress in his recovery from the knee injury he picked up against Everton in December, but the ex-Brighton & Hove Albion man is not quite ready for a first-team return just yet.

Marc Cucurella

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: March 2 (vs. Brentford)

Marc Cucurella was another victim of that loss to Everton, sustaining a painful twisted ankle, and the left-back will likely spend the remainder of January and the whole of February on the treatment table.

Romeo Lavia

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: Unknown

After battling back from an ankle issue, Chelsea new boy Romeo Lavia returned to the medical bay with an issue in his quadriceps, and there is no timeframe on the Belgian's recovery.

Malo Gusto

Status: Out
Type of injury: Unspecified
Possible return date: January 31 (vs. Liverpool)

During his pre-game press conference, Pochettino revealed that Malo Gusto would miss the clash with Boro owing to the unspecified injury he picked up against Fulham on January 13, and while the Frenchman is now back in team training, he will miss Friday's match.

Nicolas Jackson

Status: Out
Reason of absence: International duty
Possible return date: Unknown

Nicolas Jackson's Senegal recently topped their Africa Cup of Nations group with three wins from a possible three, meaning that the striker will remain unavailable for Chelsea selection for as longas his country are competing in the knockout stages.
