Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has refused to reveal whether he has discussed a new contract with the club's incoming minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Ten Hag's position as manager of the 20-time English champions continues to be called into question due to the team's struggles during the 2023-24 campaign.

The Red Devils have already lost 14 times in all competitions this season, while they are down in eighth position in the Premier League table, 11 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

The FA Cup is the club's only realistic chance of claiming silverware this term, and they will be bidding to book their spot in the fifth round of the competition on Sunday when Newport County welcome them.

Ten Hag's contract at Old Trafford is due to expire in 2025, and there have been claims that Ratcliffe and his INEOS team could appoint a new head coach this summer.

Ratcliffe's 25% purchase of Man United is expected to be ratified over the next couple of weeks, at which point INEOS could publicly address Ten Hag's future.

Ten Hag refused to reveal whether he had spoken to INEOS about a new contract when questioned on the situation ahead of Sunday's FA Cup clash with Newport County.

"We speak about many, many subjects but I can't go into detail on any subjects, especially when it's going into personal," Ten Hag told reporters during Friday's press conference.

"But first and most important is that it's about the club. It's about the club, about the team and we have to work there on the highest standards to achieve our targets. It's not about any individual person.

"When you are in top football, I think you will know you have to prove yourself every day. And so that counts for everyone here working for this club."

Fifth in the Premier League may be enough to secure a Champions League position for the 2024-25 campaign, but the Red Devils are also eight points behind Tottenham Hotspur on the same number of matches (21).

Omar Berrada has already been confirmed as the club's new CEO, but Ratcliffe will make further changes to the football department in the coming months.

Man United will be back in Premier League action away to Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 1 before welcoming West Ham United to Old Trafford next weekend.
