Fulham to trigger Cardiff City defender Joe Bennett's release clause?

A report claims that Joe Bennett is a £2m target for Fulham, who had a bid rejected for the Cardiff City left-back last summer.

Fulham will reportedly attempt to sign defender Joe Bennett from fellow Premier League new boys Cardiff City by triggering his £2m release clause.

The 28-year-old was a regular for the Bluebirds during their promotion-winning campaign, starting 38 of his side's 46 league games.

Bennett has just a year left to run on his existing deal, however, and the Daily Mail suggests that Fulham are about to make a fresh approach, 12 months after falling short with an offer.

City boss Neil Warnock is confident that the 28-year-old will turn down the chance to jump ship, with the left-back almost certain to retain his place in the starting lineup next term.

Fulham, themselves promoted from the Championship with a playoff final win against Aston Villa, are also looking to tie up deals for Tomas Kalas, Lucas Piazon and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
