Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd is confirmed as the half-time act at the 2021 Super Bowl.

The Weeknd has been announced at the interval act at next year's Super Bowl, following in the footsteps of the likes of Prince, Madonna, Beyonce and Diana Ross.

The Canadian singer-songwriter has enjoyed a hugely successful year thanks to his track 'Blinding Lights', which was propelled by TikTok to number one around the world.

"We all grow up watching the world's biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position," he said in a statement.

"I'm humbled, honoured and ecstatic to be the centre of that infamous stage this year."

The NFL's annual centrepiece event will take place at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on February 7, 2021 - with a severely-limited audience expected to be in physical attendance due to coronavirus.
