Sports Mole

There are many moles in the SM family, you know. Read on to find out more about who lives in our hole!

Neil Wilkes
Editor-in-chief

Neil is the co-founder of entertainment website Digital Spy, serving as Editor from 1999 to 2011 before leaving to set up Sports Mole. A season-ticketed Wolves fan, Neil also loves tennis and has a soft spot for player-turned-anchor Annabel Croft. In his spare time he indulges his obsession for trashy TV shows. Neil can be found on Twitter @MLAW290.

Darren Plant
Senior Reporter

Darren graduated from Staffordshire University with a Sports Journalism degree in 2009 and has previously worked for news website InTheNews as well as local newspapers The Cannock Mercury and The Chase Post. Darren is a Chelsea fan but also follows Conference North side Hednesford Town. He has a big interest in darts, and plays for two different pub sides. He names his favourite sportsmen as Fernando Torres, Andy Murray and Wayne Mardle. Follow Darren on Twitter @Dazman5.

Ben Knapton
Senior Reporter

Ben graduated from the University of Brighton with a Sports Journalism degree in 2019, and has experience working with newspapers, broadcasters and reporting live from the press box. Ben is an avid Arsenal fan and was at the Emirates to see THAT Jack Wilshere goal against Norwich City. A former British champion in gymnastics, he has since taken his acrobatic traits to the football pitch, playing as a goalkeeper in his spare time. Follow Ben on Twitter @BenKnapton.

Oliver Thomas
Reporter

Oliver graduated from UCFB Wembley with a First Class Honours degree in Multimedia Sports Journalism in 2019, and has experience working for the media teams at Wycombe Wanderers and Hampton and Richmond Borough as well as working for the National League Under-19's Alliance and The National Student. Oliver is an avid Manchester City supporter and is currently aiming to visit all 92 football league grounds. Follow Oliver on Twitter @O1iThomas.

Brett Curtis
Reporter

Brett is an avid football fanatic first and foremost but enjoys his history, too, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts at the University of East Anglia. Amalgamating his two main hobbies in life - football and writing - has seen him work for several online publications such as Goal and Bleacher Report in the past. As a lifelong Liverpool fan, Brett has gone through all the highs and lows, with his hero Steven Gerrard a central presence throughout all of them until Jurgen Klopp finally restored the Reds to their perch after years of Sir Alex Ferguson-inflicted misery throughout his childhood. Follow Brett on Twitter @brett_curtis92.

Jonathan O'Shea
Reporter

Jonathan is a Sports Journalism graduate from the University of Huddersfield who also works in education. Having written for several football websites in the past – particularly about the much-maligned Europa League – the unfailing drama and intrigue of Italy's Serie A is where his interests now lie. A part-time Aston Villa and Republic of Ireland supporter; full-time football chatterer, Jonathan also holds a candle for guitar music, surreal comedies and a variety of other sports. Follow Jonathan on Twitter @strangeloaf

Sam Varley
Reporter

Sam is a Sheffield United season ticket holder, while also running the social media content of non-league club Yorkshire Amateur AFC in Leeds. When he's not writing, watching or playing football, Sam enjoys watching cricket, golf and boxing, and is currently studying Business and Marketing at the University of Manchester.

Marvelous Adepoju
Reporter

Marvelous is an engineering student at the University of Ibadan with a passion for the beautiful game called football. Other areas of interest are music, basketball and tennis. He supports Chelsea and the Portland Trailblazers and has plans to visit their home grounds some day.

Joshua Ojele
Reporter

Currently an undergraduate student of Petroleum Engineering in Nigeria's premier university, Joshua is an ardent Chelsea fan who enjoys writing and debating about football. A fox in the box himself, he terrorises opposing defenders whenever on the field of play and strongly believes that when compared to Manchester United's treble-winning team, Chelsea's 2003-2004 side, Manchester City's centurion or Liverpool's 2019-20 title-winning side, Arsenal's invincibles are a tad bit overrated. Follow Joshua on Twitter @JoshuaOjele

Joel Lefevre
Reporter

Joel is known to most people as a former houseguest on Big Brother Canada where he finished fifth in season four. He is a broadcast journalism graduate from WABC in Canada with over 7 years of experience as a news and sports writer & anchor. As a dual French and Canadian citizen, he is a massive football fan and former goalkeeper who is used to second place, having captured two silver medals at the Canadian provincials. Being a lifelong supporter of AS Monaco and the French national team, he knows a lot about nearly winning. Because his teams rarely finish first he consistently rewatches the 1998 and 2018 World Cup to bring a little joy to all the heartbreak he has experienced as a football supporter. Follow Joel on Twitter @JoelBBCAN.

Andrew Delaney
Reporter

Andrew graduated from UCFB Etihad in 2022 with a First Class Honours degree and has written for numerous websites since he was 16. An avid follower of both European Football and Everton FC, where he is a season ticket holder, Andrew also has a hobby of travelling around Europe and experiencing football matches in all corners of the continent. Follow Andrew on Twitter @a_delaneysport

Dominic Lund
Reporter

Dominic is a Sports Journalism graduate from the University of Huddersfield, previously working in the media team at FC Halifax Town. He's always been passionate about football, following his local club Tranmere Rovers home and away. Outside of the beautiful game, he also enjoys watching boxing and going to gigs.

Carter White
Reporter

Carter recently graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Bachelor's degree in Economics and is now pursuing his passion of football journalism and sports content creation. A season ticket holder at Birmingham City who is desperately holding on to their League Cup win and subsequent Europa League campaign during the early 2010s. Created Bluenose Alliance on Instagram in 2020 to give Birmingham fans a place to discuss the annual relegation battles.

Ben Morris
Reporter

Ben has worked with numerous websites and publications around the world, enabling him to write about football and many other sports. As an avid follower of the beautiful game, Ben has attended five European Championships, two World Cups and a Champions League final, although nothing will beat seeing his beloved Nottingham Forest win the 2022 playoff final at Wembley.

Grey Whitebloom
Reporter

Grey is a freelance sports journalist that tries to justify a degree in maths and physics by giving his articles a statistical slant. Surely one of the slowest players the pitches of Hackney Marshes has ever had the displeasure of hosting can be found discussing English and European football on a number of publications at a leisurely pace. body check tags ::
