Sports Mole

St Johnstone will attempt to elevate themselves further up the Scottish Premiership table this weekend when they take on Kilmarnock at McDiarmid Park.

The hosts come into this match off the back of a victory against Hibernian, while the visitors are unbeaten in their last five games.

Match preview

St Johnstone have made an indifferent start to the 2022-23 campaign under Callum Davidson and sit ninth in the Premiership ranks with 12 matches played on 13 points.

Winning against Kilmarnock on Saturday could take the Saints as high as sixth, though they have struggled at home and share the worst record on their own patch in the league alongside Motherwell, garnering just four points.

Nevertheless, their form has been considerably better on the road, where they have gathered the majority of their results this season.

Last time out, the Perth side defeated Hibernian 2-1 at Easter Road thanks to goals from Nicky Clark and Stevie May which completed a stunning comeback following a Kyle Magennis opener.

Manager Davidson will be hoping his side can produce a similar display against Kilmarnock as they look to move up the league standings.

Kilmarnock travel to St Johnstone on a great run and have gone unbeaten across their last five matches in all competitions under Derek McInnes.

The Ayrshire side occupy 10th place in the Scottish Premiership, however recent results have generated plenty of optimism amongst their supporters.

In their most recent outing, a clinical effort from Danny Armstrong was enough to secure a 1-0 victory over Ross County at Rugby Park, taking his goal tally for the season to seven strikes.

McInnes has also guided Kilmarnock through to the final four of the Scottish League Cup, where they will face holders Celtic at Hampden Park early next year.

The former Aberdeen boss will hope to continue his side's unbeaten run this weekend to move further away from the relegation zone.

Team News

For the hosts, Chris Kane, Callum Booth and Cammy MacPherson will not be present due to long-term injury absences.

Graham Carey could be available for the matchday squad, while Ryan McGowan is a doubt for the visit of Kilmarnock this weekend.

Kilmarnock will be without Scott Robinson for the trip to Perth as he is still recovering from a knee injury alongside Liam Donnelly.

Kyle Lafferty is suspended for the tie and will not feature for the visitors.

St Johnstone possible starting lineup:
Matthews; Considine, Mitchell, Gordon; Brown, Hallberg, Kucheriavyi, Montgomery; Wright, McLennan; May

Kilmarnock possible starting lineup:
Hemming; Taylor, Wright, Mayo; Alebiosu, Power, McInroy, Chrisene; Jones, Armstrong; Cameron

We say: St Johnstone 1-1 Kilmarnock

In a match that will be full of drama, we expect both sides to create plenty of opportunities as they seek a victory.

Regardless, there will be no separating the teams and both Kilmarnock and St Johnstone will have to settle for a point apiece.
