How Poland could line up against Mexico

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski will be aiming to score his first-ever World Cup goal for Poland when they take on Mexico in Group C on Tuesday.

The legendary forward appeared at a World Cup for the first time in Russia in 2018, but he blanked in all three matches as his country bowed out at the group stage for the third successive time.

Aston Villa's Matty Cash, who only made his international debut one year ago after applying for a Polish passport through his mother's descent, should shake off an ongoing shoulder issue to be available for selection.

However, the 25-year-old faces major competition from Bartosz Bereszynski and Przemyslaw Frankowski for a place in the team at right wing-back, with the former's experience potentially helping him win that particular duel.

Head coach Czeslaw Michniewicz has been deprived of the services of Bartlomiej Dragowski, Jacek Goralski and Adam Buksa in the build-up to travelling to Qatar, with the trio withdrawing from the national team squad due to injury.

However, the 52-year-old retains a plethora of offensive options at his disposal, with Juventus' Arkadiusz Milik and Salernitana's Krzysztof Piatek both unlikely to start despite the latter scoring the winner in a friendly against Chile on Wednesday.

Poland possible starting lineup: Szczesny; Bednarek, Glik, Kiwior; Bereszynski, Krychowiak, Zielinski, Szymanski, Zalewski; Swiderski, Lewandowski
