Simon Cowell reportedly signs up Dawn French to appear as a judge on his new ITV series Walk The Line.

Dawn French has reportedly signed up to appear as a judge on ITV's new music competition series Walk The Line.

The new show, devised by Simon Cowell, will see amateur singers compete for a cash prize, which grows larger the longer that they stay in the competition.

Last week Cowell stepped down from his role as head judge on the show and was replaced by Gary Barlow, and according to The Sun, comedy icon French will be joining him.

A source told the newspaper: "The comedian may seem like a surprising choice for a judge on a contest that's all about music... until you realise she's always had a crush on her new boss.

"Simon is also partial to having a comic on his panels to bring some laughs, with David Walliams and Michael McIntyre previously judges on Britain's Got Talent.

"But she also comes with over 40 years of experience in showbiz, starring in sitcoms, sketch shows, films and on the West End. So she knows how to spot talent."

Craig David is also said to be on the judging panel, while singer Mabel has reportedly pulled out of a judging role at the last moment.
