Result: Bautista seals dream debut with Phillip Island sweep

It was a perfect weekend in Victoria for Bautista.

Alvaro Bautista completed the hat-trick on his World Superbike Championship debut by taking the chequered flag in Sunday's Race 2.

The Spanish series newcomer got off to the best possible start when he finished first in Saturday's race on Phillip Island.

And, following a win in the inaugural Superpole race, Bautista completed the trio after leading from the front under sunny skies in Australia.

The Aruba.it Ducati Panigale V4 R rider finished 12 seconds ahead of the pack, with Northern Irishman Jonathan Rea crossing the line just ahead of Kawasaki Racing team-mate and fellow Briton Leon Haslam.

Michael Van Der Mark wound up fourth, 0.285 seconds ahead of teammate Alex Lowes.

After the opening WSC round Bautista tops the championship standings with 62 points, 13 ahead of Rea and 32 in front of Marco Melandri.
