Wigan Athletic sign Ivory Coast defender Cedric Kipre from Motherwell

Wigan Athletic announce the signing of Ivory Coast defender Cedric Kipre from Motherwell on a three-year contract.

Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of Motherwell defender Cedric Kipre on a three-year contract.

The 21-year-old has agreed a three-year contract with the Championship side just a year after joining the Steelmen as a free agent on an initial one-year deal.

Kipre signed a contract extension with Well during the 2017-18 season and went on to make 49 appearances last term, playing as the Premiership side reached both the Scottish Cup and League Cup finals.

"Thank you Motherwell for this opportunity you gave me," the Ivory Coast defender, who is believed to have cost the Latics around £1m, wrote on Twitter.

"Thanks to every single person involved who helped me feeling like at home, all the staff who helped me grow as a player and as a man.

"Thank you to the fans who sang my name all season, it was amazing to hear that on the pitch, it inspired me and helped me kick on.

"I'll never forget my time at Motherwell. I wish you all the very best for the season. What a club this is."

Kipre came through the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy before moving to Leicester City in 2014 but failed to make a first-team appearance for the Foxes.
