Santiago Solari appointed permanent Real Madrid manager

Caretaker Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari signs a two-and-a-half-year deal to become the club's permanent manager until 2021.

Real Madrid have confirmed that caretaker boss Santiago Solari has been appointed as the club's permanent manager until 2021.

The 42-year-old was placed in temporary charge last month following the sacking of Julen Lopetegui, who lost five and won just one of his final seven games in charge of the club.

Solari has since turned Madrid's fortunes around, winning all four of his matches at the helm, scoring 15 goals and conceding just twice in the process.

The likes of Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Mauricio Pochettino had been linked with the vacant Bernabeu post, but Solari - who spent five years with Madrid as a player - has now put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

"The Board of Directors of Real Madrid CF, meeting today November 13, 2018, has agreed to the appointment of Santiago Solari as coach of the first team until June 30, 2021," read a statement on the club's official website.

Solari, whose only previous managerial experience came with Madrid's youth and 'B' teams, will travel to Eibar for his first match in permanent charge.
