Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly committed to paying Kylian Mbappe an eye-watering £549m for the duration of his new contract.

The 23-year-old was initially due to become a free agent at the end of the 2021-22 season, and the indications were that he would end his association with the French champions.

Real Madrid were expected to wrap up a deal for Mbappe, who was also rumoured to have been on Liverpool's radar, but he ultimately chose to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes.

The France international has committed himself to the Ligue 1 champions until the end of the 2023-24 season with the option of an additional year, although questions over his future have started to reappear.

PSG have been rocked by allegations that Mbappe believes that signing his new contract was a mistake and wants to leave, as the French club, as Les Parisiens pulled out all the stops to satisfy the striker with a monumental financial package.

According to Le Parisien, PSG have agreed to fork out a mammoth €630m (£549.7m) for the duration of Mbappe's stay, which makes his current contract the biggest-ever in football history.

The report claims that Mbappe is earning €6m (£5.2m) per month through his salary, which is reduced to €2.7m (£2.4m) after tax, but no performance-related add-ons are included in the deal.

However, the ex-Monaco man can expect to receive a whopping €180m (£157m) signing-on fee, and even if he does force an exit before the end of his contract, the amount will still be paid in full to him.

Furthermore, a loyalty bonus of €70m (£61.1m) was also included as part of the contract, and that amount will increase by €10m (£8.7m) for every season he remains in Paris.

Mbappe has continued his rich goalscoring form in the 2022-23 season since signing his new contract, producing 14 goals and two assists from 15 appearances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

However, prior to becoming PSG's highest-ever goalscorer in the Champions League with his 31st strike in the tournament against Benfica, reports emerged claiming that Mbappe has had a change of heart and now wants to leave again.

The World Cup winner is understood to have been left feeling "betrayed" at promises that have not been fulfilled since he signed his new deal, although he has denied directly asking for a move away.

Mbappe is still thought to privately harbour ambitions of a move elsewhere, and PSG have been forced to refute claims that they conducted a social media smear campaign against the attacker.

Manager Christophe Galtier and football advisor Luis Campos have also played down Mbappe's reported desire to leave the club, and he would seemingly be short of realistic suitors if he does try to push through an exit.

Real were tipped to reignite their interest in Mbappe following the fresh revelations, but Blancos president Florentino Perez no longer has any interest in pursuing the France international. body check tags ::
