Cristiano Ronaldo: 'Champions League should be named after me'

Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo suggests that the Champions League should be named after him, having picked up his fifth winners' medal in the competition.

Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested that the Champions League should be named after him due to his record in the competition.

Ronaldo became the first player in the Champions League era to win the trophy five times courtesy of Madrid's 3-1 victory over Liverpool in Kiev last night, ending the campaign as the competition's top scorer with 15 goals.

The 33-year-old also holds the record for most goals in the competition's history with 120, and he joked that his achievements in Europe have been impressive enough to warrant a lasting legacy.

When asked whether he was disappointed not to have scored in the final, Ronaldo told reporters: "Who's disappointed?

"Perhaps they need to change the name of the Champions League to the CR7 Champions League. Who has the most titles and who has the most goals?"

Including the European Cup era, Ronaldo is just one trophy short of Francisco Gento's all-time record of six European titles.
