Real Madrid 'rejected £156m Marco Asensio bid'

Marco Asensio's agent reveals that Real Madrid turned down a bid of €180m (£156m) for the Spaniard last year amid speculation linking him with a Premier League move.

The agent of Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio has revealed that the club rejected offers of €180m (£156m) for his client last year.

Asensio has been linked with moves to a number of Europe's top clubs in recent transfer windows, with particular interest from the Premier League.

The likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been touted as possible destinations for the 23-year-old, but his agent Horacio Gaggioli has insisted that the Spaniard is solely focused on Madrid and plans to still be at the Bernabeu next season.

"Marco is thinking about next season and winning again with Real Madrid," Gaggioli told ESPN.

"Last year Real Madrid rejected offers of €180m for him. Marco says that he is very happy at the club. He just wants to succeed there."

Asensio has struggled to nail down a regular role in the Madrid team this season, starting just 18 league games and scoring only one top-flight goal in 2018-19.
