The agent of Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah has rubbished claims that his client could push for a summer transfer if the Reds fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.

A troubled campaign for the Reds has them languishing in seventh in the Premier League table and at risk of missing out on a place in Europe's premier tournament for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign.

A goalless draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday night left the Reds nine points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, although they do have two games in hand on the Lilywhites.

Liverpool remain in with a chance of qualifying for next year's Champions League by going all the way in this year's tournament, but they are on the brink of a last-16 exit after losing 5-2 to holders Real Madrid in last week's first leg.

Earlier on Monday, it was reported that Salah would be open to an exit from Anfield if Jurgen Klopp's side missed out on a place in the 2023-24 Champions League, as speculation over his future hots up.

However, the 30-year-old's agent Ramy Abbas Issa took to social media to dismiss the "nonsense" reports and insisted that the pair have never once discussed the possibility of Liverpool finishing outside of the top four.

"Nonsense. This was never discussed or thought about. Not qualifying to the Champions League hasn't even crossed our minds," Abbas Issa wrote on Twitter.

While European qualification may not have any bearing on Salah's long-term future, the Egypt international will turn 31 this year and has endured a slightly less effective season on the goalscoring front.

Salah still has a respectable 19 goals and nine assists to show from 35 matches across all competitions, but only eight of those goals have come in 23 Premier League outings.

Furthermore, the former Chelsea man has only found the back of the net once in his last eight Premier League games, and Liverpool are not exactly short of options in the final third.

Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Roberto Firmino, Fabio Carvalho and Luis Diaz are also at Klopp's disposal, although the latter has spent the last four months on the sidelines with a knee injury.

With at least one big-money midfielder on the agenda for the summer transfer window, Liverpool are still said to be open to summer bids for Salah, who extended his contract until 2025 last year.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in signing the 30-year-old as a possible replacement for Lionel Messi, who is said to be leaning towards an exit from the Ligue 1 champions when his contract expires this summer.

Salah has 175 goals and 72 assists to his name from 289 games in a Liverpool shirt, and he became their highest European goalscorer of all time with his early goal against Real Madrid last week - overtaking Steven Gerrard with his 42nd continental strike.

The Egyptian is only three goals away from becoming Liverpool's highest Premier League goalscorer of all time, currently sitting on 126 strikes compared to Robbie Fowler's long-standing record of 128.

Salah could equal or break Fowler's record when Liverpool play host to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Wednesday evening. body check tags ::
