Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to sign Bayern Munich attacker Leroy Sane, according to a report.

After enjoying a trophy-laden stint with Manchester City between 2016 and 2020, the Germany international returned to his homeland for a £50.6m fee.

Sane has since registered 25 goals and 28 assists in 91 outings for the Bavarian giants in all competitions amid competition from Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and Kingsley Coman on the flanks.

The 26-year-old still has three years left to run on his contract with Julian Nagelsmann's side, but his future has been called into question on a couple of occasions in the past few months.

Real Madrid were previously linked with a move for Sane, while Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was also tipped to reunite with the ex-Man City man at the Emirates after losing out to Barcelona for Raphinha.

Now, Spanish outlet El Nacional claims that Liverpool boss Klopp wants his side to make a move for the former Schalke youngster as soon as possible.

The report adds that Sane is now ready to experience a new challenge after two seasons in the Bundesliga, and Liverpool can expect to pay €55m (£46.4m) for his services.

Real president Florentino Perez is said to have vetoed a move for Sane for Los Blancos earlier in the window, in spite of their failure to prise Kylian Mbappe away from Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool and Bayern have already done business this summer over the transfer of Sadio Mane, who eventually completed a switch to the Allianz Arena after Nagelsmann's side saw a couple of opening bids rejected.

Mane, Gnabry and Musiala were all named in Bayern's starting lineup for their 6-1 thrashing of Eintracht Frankfurt on the opening day of the Bundesliga on Friday, with Sane named among the substitutes.

The 26-year-old still managed to assist Musiala's second goal as a substitute, but it remains to be seen if he will re-establish himself as a regular starter in the Bayern XI.

Having already signed Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsay and Darwin Nunez this summer, Liverpool were expected to close the door on any more incomings this summer.

However, El Nacional further claims that Klopp is still not satisfied with his options in attack after also losing Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi to Monaco and AC Milan respectively.

Diogo Jota will also be out for a number of weeks after aggravating a hamstring injury in pre-season, while Roberto Firmino's contract will expire at the end of the season.

Firmino was still given the nod for the Reds' Premier League opener with Fulham at Craven Cottage, with £64m man Nunez occupying a place on the bench. body check tags ::
