Ronald Koeman: 'Defeat to Lyon increases scrutiny'

Everton boss Ronald Koeman admits that the final decision over his uncertain future as manager will come down to the board, as the Toffees' poor run of form continues.

Ronald Koeman has confessed that his position as Everton manager is now under even more scrutiny following defeat to Lyon in the Europa League.

The Toffees' poor run of form continued on Thursday evening as they lost 2-1 at Goodison Park to remain at the foot of the Group E standings, still without a win in the competition.

Everton have one point after three Europa games and are now four points behind Lyon in second, while in the Premier League two wins from eight has left the Merseyside outfit in the lower reaches of the division.

Koeman says that the final decision over his future will be made by the board, amid reports in the British press that a new manager will be brought in before the end of the month.

Asked if the defeat had increased the scrutiny, he told reporters: "Of course. If the team is not winning and if the team is not performing when maybe they can, then it's always the manager.

"The final decision is by the board not myself. If the board thinks I am not the right man they will tell me. It's a difficult situation. You get confidence from winning games. The way we fought in the second half is something to keep and to continue."

Everton return to action on Sunday afternoon with a home match against Arsenal, before travelling to Chelsea in the EFL Cup three days later.
