Ryan Giggs: 'Don't write off Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof'

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs says that summer signing Victor Lindelof should not be singled out for criticism at this stage of his spell at Old Trafford.

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has called for Victor Lindelof to "knuckle down" in order to prove his critics wrong.

Lindelof - a summer signing from Benfica - was at fault for Huddersfield Town's second goal at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with United eventually losing out by a 2-1 scoreline.

However, Giggs has claimed that the Swedish international requires time to settle into life in the Premier League, having only featured in the top flight for 68 minutes.

The 43-year-old told Sky Sports News: "One player who has attracted a lot of criticism is Victor Lindelof but he certainly shouldn't be written off yet.

"Some players come to the Premier League and bed in straight away and others can take six months or even a year, as it was for Patrice Evra, Jaap Stam and Nemanja Vidic, and they went on to be unbelievable players.

"You win together and lose together and you can't single out a player, especially when he hasn't been playing regularly. He's just got to knuckle down and come through this."

Lindelof is a likely starter when United face Swansea City in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.
