Ashley Young: 'England made history in Panama win'

Ashley Young hails England for making "history" in their 6-1 win over Panama and believes that there is more to come from the Three Lions at the 2018 World Cup.

Ashley Young has praised England for making "history" in their 6-1 win over Panama and believes that there is more to come from the Three Lions at the 2018 World Cup.

Gareth Southgate's charges recorded the biggest England win at a major tournament as they put the Central Americans to the sword in Nizhny Novgorod.

A Harry Kane hat-trick, a John Stones brace and Jesse Lingard's strike from outside the box ensured that the Three Lions cruised into the last 16 and took top spot in Group G by virtue of fewer yellow cards than Belgium.

"It was one of those games you want to be involved in," Young told BBC Sport. "The main thing was to get the win and we have done that in some style.

"There was a bit of disappointment in the way we conceded but it shouldn't take away from the performance. We made history today and it's the start of something to come."

England will take on second-placed Belgium in their final group match in Kaliningrad on Thursday.
