Hasenhuttl challenges Redmond to become Southampton's matchwinner

Redmond has shone since Hasenhuttl was appointment at Southampton.

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has challenged Nathan Redmond to prove he can be the club's matchwinner.

The England international scored twice in Saturday's 2-2 FA Cup draw at Derby as the Saints blew a 2-0 lead.

The winger had failed to score in 18 games this season before Hasenhuttl's arrival but has now netted four times in seven outings under the new boss.

Danny Ings is out for two weeks with a hamstring injury and Hasenhuttl is looking for Redmond to fill the gap.

"It's important he shows he's the guy who can decide the games for us." said the manager.

"I am happy with him, he works very hard at the moment, that's why he earns more goals and more assists. He is coming back into good shape now and he's an important player for us.

"The only thing missing in the last month was the final action. He has showed now he has quality in this part."

Redmond's goals were cancelled out by quickfire goals from Jack Marriott and Tom Lawrence as the Rams forced a replay at St Mary's next week.

Hasenhuttl accused his side of complacency but vowed they would not make the same mistakes again.

"We changed a few guys. After our tough game against Chelsea we needed fresh players and we showed we 100 per cent want to get into the next round," he said.

"That's important for us. We didn't (do it) on Saturday but I guarantee you we will try again."

Hasenhuttl also confirmed Saints have received offers for Manolo Gabbiadini with the striker linked to Real Betis and Sampdoria.

"Sure (they have had bids), we have to decide and he has to decide where he wants to go," he added.

"There are a few teams interested in Manolo, we will have a look and if there's a result, we'll tell you."

Derby deserved a second chance and Marriott could have won it in injury time but blazed over.

Boss Frank Lampard is relishing a replay despite a hectic Sky Bet Championship schedule as they chase promotion.

He said: "I would have taken it (a replay) at 2-0 down. With the squad we've got here and the challenge to go to a Premier League team and play, it's great. We should embrace that.

"Let's have another game against Premier League opposition. Let's go to their stadium and see what we're made of."
