Sean Dyche hails "fantastic" victory

Burnley manager Sean Dyche praises his side for producing a "fantastic" display in their 1-0 victory at Southampton.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has praised his side for producing a "fantastic" victory away at Southampton this afternoon.

A header from substitute Sam Vokes nine minutes from time was enough to seal all three points for the Clarets, who now move up to sixth in the Premier League table - level on points with Arsenal and Chelsea.

Dyche's side have also taken 11 points from their six games away from home so far this term, helping them to continue their best start to a top-flight season in more than 40 years.

"Fantastic," Dyche told reporters afterwards. "The two that came on up front (Ashley Barnes and Vokes) were a credit with their professionalism. They came on and really affected the game today and Sam Vokes's header was a fantastic finish. What a header.

"Southampton are a very technical team with people who can carry the ball. You have to be resolute in your defensive shape. I think it is a very important part of the game. We still have to fight for every chance we get but we are willing to do the graft.

"I am delighted to be where we are but there are a lot of challenges coming our way and the group know we will have to work hard for every point we get.

"The thing I guaranteed when I got here is a group that will give everything."

Awaiting Burnley after the international break is a home encounter with Swansea City on November 18.
