England boss Gareth Southgate: 'Harry Kane, Harry Winks had no chance'

England boss Gareth Southgate says that Tottenham Hotspur duo Harry Kane and Harry Winks had no chance to feature for the Three Lions against Germany and Brazil.

England boss Gareth Southgate has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur duo Harry Kane and Harry Winks were "clearly not available" for the games with Germany and Brazil.

Southgate has described an emerging 'club versus country' row as "nonsense", despite as many as six players withdrawing from his squad for the Wembley double-header.

Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino has already suggested that Kane will be fit for the North London derby with Arsenal on Saturday, November 18, but Southgate has backed the decision of the forward to pull out of the group for the matches against the multiple-time world champions.

The 47-year-old told reporters: "Both Harry Kane and Harry Winks were scanned, they were clearly not available for us but Spurs may risk them for the North London derby."

Southgate has brought both Jake Livermore and Jack Cork into his squad, while adding that players from the Under-21s may feature against Brazil next week.
