Dries Mertens: 'Manchester City are not unstoppable'

Napoli forward Dries Mertens insists that Manchester City can be stopped this season despite seeing his side lose both Champions League meetings.

Napoli forward Dries Mertens has insisted that Manchester City can be stopped despite seeing his side lose both matches against Pep Guardiola's men in their Champions League group.

City beat the Serie A outfit 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium before winning 4-2 in Naples a fortnight later, contributing towards a remarkable start to the season which has seen the Premier League leaders win 16 and draw one of their 17 outings across all competitions.

Guardiola's side are now favourites to win the Premier League title and amongst the frontrunners to lift the Champions League too, but Mertens is confident that they can be beaten.

"They're not unstoppable because the game at home we played really good and we had chances to make it 3-2 and we didn't score them and two seconds later they scored to make it 3-2," the Belgian told reporters.

"That was a bummer but I think they have a very good team, it's working, they're doing really good but like every team, it's going to stop one day."

City are currently on a club-record 15-match winning streak across all competitions and will look to extend that against Leicester City after the international break.
