Josep Maria Bartomeu: 'Impossible for Barcelona to re-sign Neymar'

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu admits to meeting Neymar since the attacker joined Paris Saint-Germain but says that it would be 'impossible' to re-sign him.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has admitted to meeting with Neymar since the attacker joined Paris Saint-Germain but has played down suggestions that the Brazilian could return to Camp Nou.

The 27-year-old scored 105 goals in 186 appearances for Barcelona between 2013 and 2017 before completing a world-record move to PSG in the summer of 2017.

The South American has netted 48 times in 53 appearances for PSG since his arrival, but his long-term future in the French capital continues to be called into question.

Bartomeu has hinted that he would like to bring Neymar back to Camp Nou, but has conceded that it would be 'impossible' to re-sign the world's most expensive player due to a number of factors.

"I have spoken with Neymar these years. We have met once, but never has his environment told me that he wants to return. He has not called anyone from the executive," Bartomeu told Radio Kanal Barcelona.

"He has a contract with PSG, it is his second season and it is very difficult for them to sell him. We did not want it to happen. We have the disadvantage here of the clause, there is a helplessness that the European clubs take advantage of. That's why it's not possible for him to come back."

Manchester United are reportedly lining up a summer move for Neymar, who has scored 20 times and registered 11 assists in 23 appearances for PSG this season.

The former Santos youngster is currently on the sidelines with a foot injury.
