Brentford boss Dean Smith given clear run for Aston Villa job?

A report claims that Dean Smith is the clear frontrunner to succeed Steve Bruce as Aston Villa manager as Thierry Henry and Rui Faria are not interested in the job.

Brentford boss Dean Smith has reportedly been given a clear run at the Aston Villa job after two other candidates pulled out of the running.

The Villans are on the lookout for a new manager after parting company with Steve Bruce last week following a run of one win in 10 matches.

Thierry Henry emerged as the early favourite to succeed Bruce, but The Sun suggests that he has informed Villa chiefs that he is not interested in the position, while another leading contender in Rui Faria is not ready for a return to the dugout.

Smith, who grew up as a Villa fan, is therefore considered the clear frontrunner to take charge at Villa Park in the coming days.

The same report claims that John Terry will still be considered for a backroom coaching position, regardless of who is appointed.
