Sean Wilson casts doubts on whether Martin Platt will ever return to Coronation Street.

Sean Wilson has said that he believes it unlikely he will be asked to reprise his role as Martin Platt on Coronation Street in the future.

The 57-year-old played the popular character - husband of Gail (Helen Worth) and father of David (Jack P Shepherd) - for 21 years but quit in 2005 after producers proposed a storyline which would see him start a relationship with an underage girl.

Over the last year Corrie has reintroduced a host of former characters - including Spider (Martin Hancock), Wendy Crozier (Roberta Kerr) and Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) - but Wilson, now a cheesemaker, does not think he will be next on the list.

"I don't think there will be a comeback," he told The Sun. "They sent my character to New Zealand, I think they were trying to tell me something."

He continued: "I still want to act. I just think for casting people the fact that I was in Coronation Street so long is a bit of a stumbling block.

"So, I've made this situation where I don't have to do it. I would still like to though – it's one of my three loves in life: art, acting and cooking."

Martin made a brief return to the cobbles in 2018 for a hard-hitting storyline that saw David become the victim of a male rape.
