England hooker Jamie George has described the 32-15 defeat to Ireland on Saturday evening as 'one of his proudest days'.

Charlie Ewels was dismissed after just 82 seconds, leaving England to battle valiantly against a team who were 8-0 up after seven minutes to only succumb by a 17-point margin.

The home side were in the game until the closing stages, and George has revealed that he "felt emotional" about the performance that he and his teammates produced at Twickenham.

Speaking to England Rugby after the game, George said: "Right up to that last try I genuinely had belief and I think that says a huge amount about the character we have in the squad.

"This sounds ridiculous but it's one of the proudest days I've had in an England shirt. I feel quite emotional from this game and the feedback we had from the crowd,

"To play like that with 14 men for 78 minutes against an Ireland team respected as one of the best in the world takes some doing and I'm proud to be part of the group."

England, who can no longer win the Six Nations crown, travel to France next week trying to deny their opponents the Grand Slam. body check tags ::
