Pep Guardiola 'increases fines at Manchester City'

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reportedly changes his punishments for breaking club rules in a bid to keep his players on their toes during their title defence.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reportedly changed punishments for misdemeanors at the club in order to keep the players on their toes during the 2018-19 season.

City waltzed to the Premier League title in record-breaking fashion last season, becoming the first team to amass 100 points and finishing a full 19 points clear of second place.

The defending champions are the overwhelming favourites to retain the trophy again this term, but Guardiola is keen to ensure that complacency does not set in.

The Spaniard has reportedly decided to fine players a percentage of their wage for breaking club rules, rather than a set fee, meaning that the highest earners would suffer most for transgressing.

Guardiola is understood to have put particular emphasis on punctuality, with players being fined if they turn up late to events.

Just 1% of Kevin De Bruyne's weekly wage would see him fined £2,600, whereas lower earners at the club would not be hit as hard by a potential punishment.
