Luka Modric hits out at "nonsense" Inter Milan approach claims

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric denies making contact with FIFA to absolve Inter Milan of any blame after they were alleged to have made an illegal approach for him.

Luka Modric has hit out at "nonsense" speculation that he contacted Inter Milan over a move from Real Madrid earlier this summer.

The Croatia international's agent has talked up a switch between clubs, admitting that his client aspires to become a star in Serie A.

Madrid are understood to have complained to FIFA about Inter's behaviour, alleging that the Italian club illegally approached the player, but a report in Italy overnight suggests that Modric made the first contact and is working with the governing body to absolve Inter of any blame.

In response to the story, however, the 32-year-old took to Twitter to say: "This is the greatest nonsense in history!"

Modric is in the running for the UEFA Men's Player of the Year award along with Mohamed Salah and former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.
