Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Swansea City and Bournemouth, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Since this article was published, this game has been called off due to safety concerns regarding Swansea City's stadium. A new date for the game will be confirmed in due course.

Bournemouth will make the long trip to face Swansea City on Tuesday night looking to take advantage of Fulham's surprise defeat at the weekend.

While the visitors sit in second position in the Championship standings, Swansea are down in 17th place after losing four of their last six fixtures.

Match preview

Having seen their Championship fixture with Nottingham Forest postponed at late notice due to Storm Eunice, Bournemouth boss Scott Parker would have expected his side to be nine points adrift of Fulham by the time that they returned to action.

However, Huddersfield Town produced one of the performances of the season to beat the Cottagers in West London, keeping the Cherries six points adrift of the leaders with a game in hand.

Bournemouth have been inconsistent since the start of November, losing six of their 15 league games, but winning five of their last seven fixtures gives them hope of making a fresh claim for the title.

Having won their last three outings, the enforced break in action arguably came at the wrong time, although Parker's squad will be fresher as they prepare to go into a seven-game period over three-and-a-half weeks.

Bournemouth head into this contest with the best away record in the division, collecting 31 points from their 16 encounters away from the Vitality Stadium.

From Swansea's perspective, Saturday's demoralising 4-0 defeat at the hands of Sheffield United was their fourth in six games without troubling the scoresheet.

While Swansea have prevailed in their last two home fixtures against Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City respectively, the pressure remains on head coach Russell Martin.

Sitting 17 points clear of the relegation zone, the club's hierarchy will realistically be in no rush to part ways with Martin, but there will be an acknowledgement that things must improve in the long term.

At a time when Swansea have gone six away games without success, they have won three of their last four outings in South Wales, also possessing the fourth-best defensive record at home in the league.

Team News

Widespread changes are expected to be made to the Swansea starting lineup with Michael Obafemi among the players in line for a recall.

Ryan Bennett, Jay Fulton and Korey Smith may also be handed opportunities in the side after the defeat at Bramall Lane.

Bournemouth are contending with a growing injury list with Kieffer Moore, Gary Cahill, Ryan Christie and Ethan Laird all dealing with injuries.

With Jefferson Lerma also suspended, Parker may be prepared to stay with the starting lineup from the meeting at Blackpool, despite witnessing those players trail for much of the contest.

Former Swansea man Jamal Lowe is an alternative in attack after netting as a substitute versus the Tangerines, while Leif Davis and Emiliano Marcondes will also be considered for recalls.

Swansea City possible starting lineup:
Fisher; Bennett, Cabango, Manning; Christie, Downes, Fulton, Latibeaudiere; Smith, Paterson; Obafemi

Bournemouth possible starting lineup:
Travers; Stacey, Phillips, Kelly, Zemura; Cantwell, Cook, Billing; Anthony, Solanke, Dembele

We say: Swansea City 1-2 Bournemouth

Given Swansea's inconsistency, it is difficult to completely write them off on Tuesday evening. Nevertheless, we can only back the visitors to claim all three points, potentially holding on in the closing stages as the home side throw caution to the wind.
