How Manchester United could line up against Reading

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Manchester United could line up for Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round clash with Reading.

Manchester United will be without at least three players for Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round clash against Reading at Old Trafford.

Manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that right-back Diogo Dalot remains out with a hamstring injury, while Donny van de Beek and Axel Tuanzebe are sidelined with respective knee and back issues.

Anthony Martial (leg) and Luke Shaw (illness) both missed the 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Wednesday, and they remain doubtful for Saturday's contest.

However, Ten Hag has provided a positive update on the fitness of Jadon Sancho, who has returned to team training this week and could be selected in the matchday squad for the first time since October.

Harry Maguire missed the win over Forest due to suspension, but the United skipper could return to the first XI on Saturday to start at centre-back alongside either Lisandro Martinez or Victor Lindelof.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia will likely retain their places at full-back, while goalkeeper David de Gea could be handed a rest, with Tom Heaton and January loan signing Jack Butland available for selection.

Ten Hag has suggested that he will name a "strong" side against Reading, although the likes of attacking trio Alejandro Garnacho, Anthony Elanga and Facundo Pellistri are expected to be involved either from the start or coming off the substitutes' bench.

Scott McTominay, Fred and 17-year-old Kobbie Mainoo, who all began in the EFL Cup win against Charlton Athletic earlier this month, are also in contention to start, allowing Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes to potentially be given a rest.
