Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has said that the club are "always aiming for trophies" after progressing to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Red Devils managed to advance in the competition courtesy of a 3-1 success over fellow Premier League side Everton at Old Trafford.

Conor Coady cancelled out an opener from Antony to leave the two sides level in the 14th minute of the match, but the Everton defender then scored an own goal in the 52nd minute before Marcus Rashford netted a third for the 20-time English champions from the penalty spot late on.

Man United are currently competing in four competitions, and they will aim to advance to the semi-finals of the EFL Cup in Tuesday's last-eight contest with Charlton Athletic.

Ten Hag has said that the club should always be "aiming for trophies", but the Dutchman does not want to focus on silverware at this stage of the season.

"Manchester United is always aiming for trophies. We are going for that, but you can't force this, we have to wait for it," the head coach told reporters following the success over Everton.

"We have to focus on the next game and not think about trophies. It's far ahead, we have to work on the team, we have to work on the progress and development, and that is the only focus point at this moment.

"I think we have that [ability to win trophies]. We can fight, we can fight back if it's necessary, and that is important. We can act composed and stay composed, so we have resilience. I think we have a lot of good skills in the team to win games so we can also win prizes."

Ten Hag also paid tribute to Everton for their part in an open match at Old Trafford.

"It was really competitive, both teams challenged each other, it was a good tempo. I think the audience is the big winner of this cup game," he added.

"It was exciting to watch. A lot of tempo, a lot of opportunities for both sides and I am happy that we won this game, I think it was also justified. I think their (Everton's) performance was really good.

"They played really brave, on the front foot, go forward, and that is why I think the audience got the perfect game. It was a good show. It was entertaining.

"And once again we are happy we won, but I think the performance from Everton was good as well."

Man United have now won each of their last seven matches in all competitions, and they will welcome Manchester City to Old Trafford in the Premier League after the last-eight EFL Cup fixture with Charlton. body check tags ::
